Study Regulations for the Teacher Training for Elementary Schools degree program
The Study Regulations for the degree program (new) contain general regulations pertaining to the chosen degree program such as objectives, structure and content of the program, ECTS credit points and much more.
Teacher training degree programs are modular. Modules are thematically self-contained units to which one or more classes (such as lectures, seminars, tutorials, etc.) are assigned. The module descriptions, which are included in the Study Regulations as Annexes 2 to 4, regulate which examined assessments must be taken in the respective modules in order to successfully complete the module.
- Module descriptions for education sciences and elementary education modules, incl. school placement A (Annex 2).
- Module descriptions for practical school exercises, block internship B, elementary school teaching methodologies for German, Mathematics, General Knowledge, Art, Music and Crafts and Design (Annex 3)
- Module descriptions for supplementary studies such as media education, civic education, communication pedagogy, internationalization, courses for a more detailed look at educational science and subject theory (Annex 4).
The curriculum covers the standard period of study of 8 semesters. Annexes 5 to 10 contain a an overview of the respective schedule indicating the type and scope of the courses as well as the required academic work. In addition, the credit points are specified for each module. A total of 240 ECTS credit points must be obtained during the period of study. The 1st State Examination, including completion of the final thesis, usually takes place in the 8th semester.
Please note the study schedule is just a recommendation. It guarantees a roughly consistent workload each semester if the modules are studied in the specified order.
It may not always be possible to prevent the modules from being studied in a different order from that indicated. However, it is recommended that all basic modules be completed first. Please also take note of the “Prerequisites for participation” for a module. These can be found in the module description for the module in question.
Study Regulations for your chosen subject
When you enroll in the Teacher Training for Elementary Schools degree program, you will choose a subject for which you will take subject-specific modules and exams. §6 and Annex 1 of the Study Regulations for the degree program (new) stipulate which subjects are available to choose from.
The Study Regulations for your chosen subject contain the subject-specific regulations as well as the module descriptions for your chosen subject. As such, these supplement the Study Regulations for the degree program.

If you have chosen Mathematics as your subject, you can view the subject-specific Study Regulations here. In the module descriptions, you will find a list of all modules you need to complete both at the Faculty of Mathematics and the Chair of Primary Education/ Mathematical Education. As in the Study Regulations for the degree program, you will also find a study schedule for your chosen subject in Annex 2 of the subject.
Module Examination Regulations
The Module Examination Regulations (new) contain regulations pertaining to the organization and implementation of module examinations taken alongside your regular studies in the Teacher Training for Elementary Schools degree program.

State Examination Regulations for the 1st State Examination (LAPO I)
The LAPO I is the regulation from the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism for the 1st State Examination for students training to become teachers at schools within the Free State of Saxony. It covers the regulations for the 1st State Examination for teacher training for elementary schools, secondary schools (Oberschule & Gymnasium), and vocational schools.
The LAPO I forms a binding legal basis for the organization and implementation of State Examinations at the end of your studies. It regulates the following (among others):
- Admission requirements for the State Examination
- Examination components
- Final thesis
- Oral examinations
- Written examinations
- The calculation and weighting of grades (Please note: the grades for the 1st State Examination differ from the grades for the module examinations)
- Repeat examinations etc.

State Examination Regulations for the practical training phase (LAPO II)
The practical training phase (Referendariat) is the second phase of teacher training. The practical training phase also concludes with a State Examination. The Saxon State Office for School and Education is responsible for applications, training and examinations.
LAPO II forms the legal basis for the state practical training phase and the State Examination.
