Yes, you need to register for the examination before the examination and within a specified period of time (see information from the Examination Office). The modalities as well as current deadlines for exam registration are available on the homepage of the Examination Office.
You may only withdraw from the registration for the examination within the registration period. The documents required to do so are provided at the respective degree program on the website of the Examination Office.

Should you be unable to take an examination (oral or written) due to illness or other serious reasons, you must inform the Examination Office in a timely manner and provide proof (medical certificate, sick note). In addition, you must inform the examiners if you are unable to take an examination.
The exam will then be repeated after consultation with the examiners.

In principle, examinations can only be repeated if all graded academic work has been submitted but the module has not yet been passed. The exam can be taken again if a course in the corresponding module has been attended. Registration is the same as for any other examination.
The “free attempt” regulation, which is stipulated in the respective examination regulations, is not affected by this. The forms required for this can be found on the website of the examination office for the respective degree program.
You have a total of three attempts to successfully pass a module. If the third attempt is not passed, the overall grade for the module is considered “failed indefinitively”. You are then unable to continue your studies in this degree program.
You have to register in writing at the examination office. You can find the form on the website of the examination office of the respective degree program.
