Doctoral Studies
The Faculty of Education would be delighted to welcome you as a future doctoral student.
The Faculty would like to support you in successfully completing your doctoral project with a doctorate in philosophy (Dr. phil.).
On the pages below you will find information on the procedure and all the necessary forms for registration.
With a doctorate, the applicant demonstrates an academic qualification that goes beyond an already completed degree (Diplom, Master's, Magister) and the special ability to carry out independent academic work.
A doctorate (Latin promotio 'promotion') is the conferral of the academic degree of a doctor in a specific field of study in the form of a doctoral certificate. Universities and (in Germany) equivalent institutions of higher education have the right to award doctorates.
There are many reasons for wanting to do a doctorate: personal development, improved career opportunities, the desire to pursue an academic career, the recommendation of a professor and many more. The best prerequisite for a successful doctorate is the personal need to find new and original answers to a question that has been raised. This is because the scientific work (dissertation) must produce results that promote the development of the specific scientific field, its theories, methods and procedures.
