To support you in your doctoral candidacy to successfully graduate as Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.), the Faculty of Education provides a range of resources. On the subpages you will find information about the procedure and all the necessary registration forms.
The successful candidate for a doctorate can demonstrate a particular aptitude for independent academic work beyond their existing (Master’s, Magister, Diplom) degree qualifications.
A doctorate (Promotion in German, from the Latin promotio, or promotion) is the award of the academic title of doctor in a particular field of study in the form of a doctoral certificate. Universities and (in Germany) equivalent institutions have the right to award the doctorate.
There are many reasons for wanting to pursue a doctorate: personal development, improving job prospects, the intention to pursue an academic career, the recommendation of a professor, and many more. The best precondition for a successful doctorate is personal need to find new and original responses to a particular question. This is because the academic work (thesis) should produce results that promote the development of specific area of scholarship, its theories, methods and procedures. Author: Lisette Hoffmann
