Information for Guests
Zittau as a Host
Zittau is located in the south-easternmost corner of Saxony, in the border triangle with Poland and the Czech Republic, and is considered the cultural and historical center of Upper Lusatia. Once prosperous thanks to the cloth trade and membership of the League of Six Towns, its development has been shaped by fires, wars and political upheaval. Today, Zittau is characterized by a well-preserved old town, important monuments such as the Salt House and the Lenten cloths. Politically, the town is heavily involved in European cooperation projects and border region initiatives. Zittau is a model location for sustainable transformation with regard to structural change in the wake of the coal phase-out. Culturally, it emphasizes its role as a bridge between East and West and as a driver of regional development.
