Appeal of Dresden as a place to live for university graduates
Overview
Project term: 9/2021–09/2022
Project partner: Industrie- und Handelskammer (Chamber of Commerce and Industry, IHK) Dresden
Sponsor: Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB)
Project description
According to the third Saxon Alumni Study, which was published by TU Dresden in 2020 and concerns students who graduated in 2015/2016, more than four in ten students leave Saxony after completing their studies. Migration flows into Saxony (primarily from other regions of Germany) were able to compensate for this to some extent. However, Saxony recorded a net academic migration loss of about 24 percent.
The project "Appeal of Dresden and vicinity as a place to live and work for university graduates" aims to determine what associations, companies and municipalities can do to make the region more appealing to young people.
On the basis of TU Dresden’s three Saxon Alumni Studies, the study series Fachkraft 2020 and Fachkraft 2030 on students and recent graduates in Germany, and pertinent surveys conducted by the State Office for Statistics in Kamenz, the Chair is developing an online survey in cooperation with IHK Dresden concerning the following questions:
-
Which soft and hard attributes would have to prevail in the region to make it attractive as a place to live and work for young academics (e.g. appealing employers, access to transportation and mentality of the local population)?
-
Which aspects of the region are appealing from the perspective of a young person? Which are less appealing for young people?
The survey was conducted in spring 2022.
