Berlin at the Center of Global Health - the World Health Summit 2022
On-the-ground research on youth representation in global health governance
In a few days, the annual World Health Summit will take place in Berlin. The three-day international conference will bring together leaders from politics and private sector, as well as representatives of civil society organizations and academia. Starting on Sunday, more than 6,000 participants from over 100 countries will meet in Berlin for one of the world's largest conferences on global health.
Prof. Dr. Holzscheiter, expert for global health governance and international organizations, will participate in the 'Youth Side Event' of the German Medical Student Association on Monday, October 17. Here she will discuss with young people who are motivated to make a difference in the field of public and global health. The central topic will be how meaningful youth participation can look like on a local, national, and international level and which structural hurdles there might be.
Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Holzscheiter as well as Dr. Pantzerhielm will also participate as scientists at the World Health Summit. Since 2020, they are researching together with scientists from the University of Linköping (Sweden) on "Youth Representation in Global Politics". Through observations and planned interviews with young participants at the summit, Holzscheiter and Pantzerhielm aim to critically examine how young people are represented in global health politics and how these forms of representation shape the subjectivities and policy agendas claimed by youth in global health politics.
