The Chair of Political Systems and System Comparison focuses, among other things, on the political system of the Federal Republic of Germany, the analysis of the functioning of institutions as well as questions of research logic and social science methodology.
The Chair introduces itself
We deal with political systems from a comparative perspective. This involves analyzing historical and current democratic and authoritarian political systems, their stakeholders, institutions and the processes of opinion-forming and decision-making.
Our teaching and research focuses on
- Democracy and autocracy. Internal and external aspects of democratization, quality and stability of democracies, autocratization, promotion and diffusion of autocracy
- Digital politics. Digital processes and their interplay in democracies and autocracies. E-democracy and e-participation, social media communication
- Solidarity. Solidarity in crisis situations, solidarity in the migration crisis and in the corona pandemic
- Municipal processes and conflicts. Conflict management through the means of citizen dialogues, East German characteristics, transformation processes such as migration, corona pandemic, climate change
