Our practical projects
Of course, we do not limit ourselves to attending dialogue events of other organizations. Together with our practice partners, we conduct dialogues ourselves, test our scientific findings and continuously develop what we have learned.
As moderators, we planned and organized a World Café in May 2019 in the series “Kommune im Dialog – Bautzen“ on the topic of ”Identity" with the Municipality of Bautzen and the Saxon State Agency for Civic Education (SLpB). You can reach our German documentation under this link and here you can find the report of a local TV team about the evening on youtube (Stadtgeflüster Bautzen).
From January to June 2019 a part of our team moderated round tables in citizen workshops with volunteers in the framework of the series “Miteinander reden!” (Talking to Each Other!) of the Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony. The event took place in all 13 administrative districts. We worked with a team of moderators from Aktion Zivilcourage e. V. and TU Dresden. This project was very interesting not only as a practical experience. Another part of our team took over the evaluation of the citizen workshops on the basis of a comprehensive observation guide. This gave us new insights into the functioning of a citizens' workshop format and gave us the opportunity to listen to around 1000 citizens about their wishes and ideas for our polity.
Due to Covid 19 it was clear that we had to stop presence events for now. Still the need for societal discussion and exchange was high during the crisis. Under the leadership of Sächsische Landeszentrale für politische Bildung we participated in a series of digital dialogues "Learning from a Crisis - Open Society in the Post-Covid Phase" in Summer of 2020. Again we took on the role of moderations with parts of our team and gave a thorough evaluation with other team members. Which methods and tools are useful for strengthening digital participation in civic education is discussed in our report Abschlussbericht.
Direct encounters - with safety measures - becam possible again on 1. July 2020 in Zittau. under the topic "What is Covid doing with us? - Let's talk!". Bericht. The polarization between supporters and opponents of pandemic response measures were discussed and we looked for better ways towards a mutual understanding. Our colleagues from Aktion Zivilcourage Petra Schweizer-Strobel und Julia Schindler confidently moderated the difficult discussion, so that the goal of the event was achieved.
In spring of 2021 we went back to the format of Corona-Dialogues, since the last months of the pandemic, including two lock-downs, resulted in a concernign polarization of society. Due to social distancing it wasn't possible to demonstrate and discuss different viewpoints in a public sphere. Increasingly opponents of measures had simply taken public spaces by illegal demonstrations and protests. From that background a series of events in the city of Freiberg developed in May / June 2021.
