Introducing the faculty

Including the Teaching Center for Languages and Regional Studies as well as the Central European Center for Political, Economic and Cultural Studies, the Faculty has around 190 academic employees. The academic staff is supported by 23 non-academic staff members. Currently, there are more than 4000 students enrolled in the courses of the Faculty.

The Faculty
Studying at the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies at TU Dresden opens up a wide range of perspectives in the subjects of English and American Studies, German Studies and Media Cultures, Classical Philology, Romance Studies and Slavic Studies. Students can choose from a variety of degree programs, including Bachelor's and Master's degree programs as well as teacher training programs.
Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies see themselves as core fields of dedicated humanities education and research. In the academic examination of cultural texts and forms of expression in the past and present, they contribute to an understanding of diverse and globally networked societies and the promotion of critical, intercultural media and action skills.
Special features of the faculty are the close integration of research and teaching and the high value placed on internationalization. Together with the other two faculties in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the SLK faculty shapes the scientific potential area of social change. Research initiatives and networks in which the SLK Faculty is involved include the GenderConceptGroup, the Center for Italian Studies, the Center France|Francophonie and the Center for Central and Eastern European Studies as well as the Disruption and Societal Change (TUDiSC) excellence measure. We offer students the opportunity to get involved in ongoing research projects during their studies and support them in studying at one of the numerous partner institutions abroad (including Università degli Studi di Trento, Université Paul Valéry Montpellier, Université de La Réunion, Uniwersytet Wrocławski, Ohio State University and University of Colombo).
The classrooms in the faculty building on Wiener Straße and on the campus on August-Bebel-Straße offer modern learning environments. The intensive cooperation with the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) and the cultural institutions of the DRESDEN-concept alliance also contributes significantly to this. Cultural life at the faculty is characterized, among other things, by the TU Dresden's traditional student theater, the bühne.
We are actively committed to equal opportunities and see ourselves as part of a diverse, polyphonic and mutually respectful university community.
