New DFG Project at the Chair
Since September 1, 2026, Dr. Florian Scherübl has been serving as the Chair at the department through a Walter Benjamin Fellowship from the German Research Foundation (DFG). Through the Walter Benjamin Program, the DFG supports early-career researchers who are conducting their own research projects at a host institution. The project is titled“Psychonarratology of Resentment: Trans- and Intermedial Modelings of Consciousness in Narrative Media (Literature, Film, comics)” and, using the narrative media of comics, film, and literature as examples—as well as the psychological dimension of ressentiment—examines how concepts of emotion and affect, as well as common-sense notionsof the psychological, can be produced and modeled by narrative media through their respective specific medialities. Particular attention is given to narrative literature from 1886 to 1930 (a period historically coinciding with the epistemic configuration of the modern concept of ressentiment). In addition, attention is given to transmedia adaptations of psychonarrative literature in film and comics, and to the discernible analogies and contrasts in the representation of consciousness (particularly forms of internal focalization such as the monologue intérieur and similar devices).
The grant runs through August 2028. Dr. Scherübl was previously a Research Associate at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. We are very pleased about this collaboration.
