Courses
Teaching should support a training profile whose performance spectrum exceeds that of the ever-improving electronic tools of two-way language mediation in intercultural communication in every case! Two basic skills are promoted: immersion in the target culture through direct, authentic, differentiated and varied participation in its communicative circles, i.e. not mediated by translation; the ability to create a versatile and sought-after bridge to this culture through constant observation and a lasting proximity to the interests, problems and developments of the target culture.
The teaching program follows a scheme through which the core competencies of the educational profile can be achieved over the years of study:
French
"Immersion in the French communication community"
In the winter semesters:
V "An overview of the French language" (5 episodes with the major thematic areas: Discourse types and their linguistic organization, lexis, varieties)
+ additional course: activation of an exercise book in which grammar, lexis and pronunciation are taught in a communication-related way (aim: to be able to communicate variably, in sentence sequences, with different expressive forms; to understand different expressive forms; orally and in writing)
In the summer semesters:
S "Applications of linguistic knowledge": the complex interweaving of basic communicative forms is tested in class simulations with role-play elements; elements of cultural studies, in particular knowledge of current social developments or institutions in France, are regularly incorporated into this seminar
"Contact and proximity to France"
In the summer semesters:
V "Some French social debates of the past and current year", always including questions on the state of technologization of society, communication culture, integration and participation
In the winter semesters:
Seminar from the subject area "Linguistics + Culture, Linguistics + Literature" (here, closer cooperation with the neighboring professorship in literary and cultural studies is sought)
A regular offer to assess the individual student's level of knowledge is planned. This allows each individual to get an idea of how far they are from the desired educational profile. The function of grades, on the other hand, is primarily seen as orienting and guiding the students' commitment to learning, which nowadays varies widely, by means of signals (LP values, grade vs. pass vs. participation).
The thematic design of the teacher training examination in the field of linguistics and the oral Bachelor's examinations is based on this teaching program.
Spanish
Here, the examination of literary and media texts is to be used to lead interested students from the EuroS, Master's in Romance Studies or in the supplementary area at least to the threshold of a higher level of language competence, which will then actually enable immersion in the target society in the sense of direct, differentiated and varied participation in the target cultural communication. Strategies for the learner-autonomous development of such competence will also be discussed.
This is a medium-term program. For the time being, as part of the protection of confidence, philological core topics are still planned for the remaining students on the teacher training course, who still make up the majority of students in Hispanic linguistics.
