About the Center
Founded in late 2017, the Center for France and Francophonie (CFF) has a broad interdisciplinary focus and includes members from numerous faculties, including not only those in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences but also from the faculties
Medicine and Mechanical Engineering.
The CFF sees itself as a hub for German-Francophone academic and cultural exchange, a point of contact for international cooperation, and a facilitator of expertise regarding
Francophone cultural regions.
The CFF cooperates with the DRESDEN-concept partners, supports the Research Priority Area “Culture and Societal Change,” and contributes to the visibility of
international relations at TU Dresden.

Project Seminar
Dr. Torsten König (TU Dresden): Utopia Europe – Digital Utopia?
What impact does the digital transformation have on society and the environment? How can the global developments accompanying digitalization be situated within a European context? What digital utopias can be envisioned, and which risks need to be critically examined and discussed? The Office for University Cooperation at the Institute for French Language and Culture in Germany and the Franco-German University have announced a debate competition at German universities for the 2020 summer semester on the topic “Utopia Europe – Digital Utopia?” For more information on the event series, visit the Institute français website at: https://institutfrancais.de/kultur/gesellschaft-digitales/digitale-utopie
As part of this call for projects, the seminar participants organized a series of discussions centered on the key issues of digitalization in today’s world.
- When: Wednesdays, 3rd lecture period, 11:10 a.m.–12:40 p.m.

Conference
"Balzac + Internet = on aime": Classics in a Digital Context
Organized by: PD Dr. Martina Stemberger, in cooperation with the CFF
Digital media modifies and updates analog reading patterns, thereby radically transforming the reception of classical texts in particular. Blogs, forums, and social networks give “lay” literary criticism and non-academic debates a new reach; the heterogeneous literary subculture of fan fiction has developed an almost explosive dynamic in the early 21st century. This international and interdisciplinary conference examines the diverse forms of critical and creative (re)reception and réécriture of the classical-canonical “literature of the highest order” that have emerged in the contemporary digital context.
- When: September 1–2, 2020, postponed
- Where: Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg, Greifswald, Martin-Luther-Str. 14, 17489 Greifswald
