Master International Relations

The Master’s program in International Relations at the Center for International Studies (ZIS) at TU Dresden is designed as an interdisciplinary Master’s program. At the beginning of the program, students choose one of three specializations, each of which encompasses two of the core subjects: International Politics (IP), International Law (IR), and International Economics (IW).

Program Content

The course content varies depending on the chosen specialization.

What they have in common is the systematic integration of multiple disciplinary perspectives, which provides students with an interdisciplinary understanding of the central challenges and structures of the globalized world.

Areas of Specialization

Your areas of focus will depend on the specialization you choose:

· International Order and Institutions combines international law and international politics,

· Global Political Economy combines international politics and international economics, and

· International Law and Economics brings together international economics and international law.

In addition, each specialization includes courses in the third discipline and other social sciences.

Important: In all specialization tracks, the curriculum is academically and methodologically equivalent to the respective monodisciplinary master’s programs. This ensures that you receive a well-rounded education across multiple disciplines based on the latest scholarly research and are fully prepared for further academic pursuits.

Study Abroad

Would you like to study abroad for a semester or longer? No problem—the third semester is structured in such a way that it is particularly well-suited for a temporary stay at another university (mobility window). You will study at a university of your choice.
The Center for International Studies maintains numerous partnerships with foreign universities that offer exclusive spots for IB students. In addition, TU Dresden has partnerships with universities from virtually every part of the world.

After Graduation

From Berlin, Brussels, and Geneva to Moscow, Beijing, Abuja, and Washington, our alumni hold positions of responsibility. Whether in the Foreign Service, international organizations, NGOs, or companies—ZIS alumni are active in a wide variety of professional fields.

Where You’ll Study

At ZIS, you’ll primarily study on the main campus of TU Dresden in the Südvorstadt district. The entire campus is easily accessible by public transportation or bicycle.
