Application hints and tips
If, at the time of application, proof of the first degree qualifying the applicant for a profession is not yet available, the application will be considered under the precondition that 80 % of the credit points attainable for the degree have already been achieved based on completed module examinations or the final thesis and the colloquium (if applicable). A certification from the awarding institute of higher education (examination office) serves as proof of the above-mentioned academic achievements. The certification should also contain a preliminary average grade calculated on the basis of completed graded academic work. You can find the appropriate form on the Admissions Office website.
General information for the degree programme
Students in the Master programme International Relations can choose between the two core areas “Global Political Economy” (GPOE) and “International Organizations” (IO). The core area GPOE focuses on international economics and global-economic relations and their regulation by politics and international organizations. The core area IO focuses on international organizational structures, its emphasis is on the legal and political regulation in a globalized world and on the creation and effectiveness. Students are free to specialize in international law, international economics or international politics.
In the first two semesters students have the opportunity to catch up the basics of their core area (economics, law, and politics).
The programme comprises four semesters; this includes one optional semester abroad and one semester for the composition and presentation of the Master’s thesis. They are also expected to complete an eight-week internship.
