"A True Success Story": TU Dresden Improves to 5th Place in DFG Funding Atlas 2021 and Occupies Top Rankings in Engineering Sciences
05.10.2021 - TU Dresden is one of the most successful German universities in attracting public research funding. In the new Funding Atlas 2021, published by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) on October 5, 2021, the TU Dresden ranks 5th in a comparison of all German universities, improving by another place compared to the last evaluation in 2018. In the special chapter "30 Years of Research United," the DFG praises TU Dresden's performance as a "true success story." The university is particularly strong in the engineering sciences, where it ranks third in a comparison of German universities. In the field of computer science, systems engineering and electrical engineering, the TU Dresden is in undisputed first place with 51.7 million euros in approved funding.
"We are naturally very pleased about this development," says Prof. Angela Rösen-Wolff, Prorector Research at TU Dresden. "It shows that TUD is consistently among the top 10 German universities. Now we must continue to work on maintaining this high level and, if possible, even expanding it."
Every three years, the DFG, as the largest research funding organization and central self-governing body for science, presents a detailed evaluation of public research funding in Germany with the Funding Atlas. In the current reporting period, 2017 to 2019, scientists at TU Dresden raised a total of 293 million euros in public funding, an increase of around 13 percent compared to the previous period under review.
