Excellence in research and teaching: In the 2025 CHE Ranking, TU Dresden ranks top in technical subjects
In the latest university ranking by the Center for Higher Education (CHE), TUD Dresden University of Technology stands out with its range of degree programs such as in engineering sciences as well as electrical and computer engineering. In several of the ranked categories in the subject areas of “Electrical Engineering and Information Systems Engineering,” “Mechanical Engineering,” “Process Engineering,” and “Material Science,” TUD is one of the top universities in Germany.
The degree programs in these subject areas score particularly well in the categories graduations in appropriate time, support in the study entry phase, and contact with work environment. Students also praised the study organization, the support for stays abroad, the library facilities, and the equipment in the internship labs.
Psychology and other subject areas equally impressive
In addition to the engineering subjects, other degree programs at TUD were ranked this year, with some of the results also being outstanding. The Psychology degree program, for example, is among the best in Germany in several categories evaluated. These include graduations in appropriate time and support in the study entry phase.
Moreover, the disciplines of “Architecture,” “Civil and Environmental Engineering,” “Biotechnology,” “Chemical Engineering/Applied Chemistry,” “Education,” “German Studies,” “Romance Studies,” and “Mechatronics” scored particularly well in one or two categories. This was especially true for support in the study entry phase and graduations in appropriate time.
Background: CHE University Ranking
The latest CHE ranking evaluated over 300 universities, universities of applied sciences, dual universities, and vocational academies in German-speaking countries and over 10,000 degree programs. Each year, around a third of the disciplines is re-evaluated for the ranking. In addition to facts about studying, teaching, facilities, and research, the ranking also includes feedback from students on their study conditions. The results were published on the online platform www.heystudium.de on May 8, 2025, and will be published in the 2025 ZEIT Study Guide on May 10.
