Lecture series Gender meets Technology
The lecture series 'Gender meets Technology', organized by the GenderConceptGroup together with the Chair of Technical Thermodynamics and the School of Engineering Sciences, started very successfully in October 2021.
So far, two lectures were held on the topics 'Does the smart kitchen have (no) gender? Historical reflections on technology development and gender in the private household' (Prof. Dr. Gisela Hürlimann, Professorship for History of Technology and Economics, TU Dresden) and 'Sexism as Structural Inequality' (Sexism as Structural Injustice, Prof. Dr. Tamara Jugov, Professorship for Practical Philosophy, TU Dresden).
Throughout the winter semester 2021/22, speakers from the fields of engineering, medicine, social and cultural sciences will show in which way 'gender' and 'technology' are linked and which enormous potentials exist in a mutual consideration of current topics. The aim is to get an insight into interfaces between aspects of the humanities, such as the category of gender, and the development of new technologies, e.g. automated cancer detection or algorithmic applicant selection.
