As part of the future concept "The Synergetic University", the 17 faculties of the TU Dresden were reorganised under the umbrella of five schools. Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Mechanical Science and Engineering are united in the School of Engineering Sciences.

Tradition and innovation, successful teaching and research, well-known researchers/scientists and highly motivated young researchers shape the School of Engineering Sciences at the Technische Universität Dresden. Practically oriented research-based teaching and learning, internationally active professors, interesting research projects, excellent basic research, state-of-the-art technology, as well as worldwide university and industrial cooperation, offer the best study prerequisites. Teaching and research are always closely interlinked. The School – based on its breadth of knowledge, ability, commitment and curiosity – consciously focuses on holistic solutions to the demands of our time, which would have little chance of success without the involvement of engineers. Mechanical engineers, design engineers, materials scientists, electrical engineers and IT professionals are highly networked and research together on issues of climate change, increasing mobility or decreasing energy resources.

Teaching
In all study programmes, interdisciplinarity is also practiced on a daily basis and is an integral part of the research-oriented training concept. Thanks to close links with business and industry, as well as the non-university research institutions, students get in touch with work-related questions at an early stage and can make valuable contacts for their own professional future.

Research
The School of Engineering Sciences at the TU Dresden is characterised in equal measure by excellent basic and applied research. It is part of the identity of engineering scientists to align research questions with current social needs and the requirements of industry. Researchers/Scientists from all three faculties work together on an interdisciplinary basis.
