The process industry is changing. Modularization is intended to achieve new flexibility while at the same time reducing time and effort. The core element for this is the description of automation technology with a standardized interface, the Module Type Packacke (MTP). 

In its research on modularization, the P2O-Lab is primarily concerned with the questions of which functions the individual modules must provide and how they can be assembled as an overall system.
