FAQs

Why can't I offer my course in the AQUA modules?

A course cannot be offered in one of the AQUA modules1 if it does not meet the objectives of the general qualification.
The AQUA modules in the German-language degree programs are divided into two areas:

  • Area 1: general qualification, i.e.: content unrelated to the subject (i.e. the qualifications to be acquired do not include computer science competencies). 
    Examples would be social skills, career development, language skills as well as skills of other subject cultures;
  • Area 2: Seminars (competencies of scientific work)
    In the bachelor and undergraduate studies these are typically proseminars.
    In the Master's as well as in the advanced studies, Hauptseminare are offered.

Exceptions would contradict the goals of the program accreditation.

FAQs

May I examine a student even if I do not have official exam documents?

If examinations are conducted without a registration for the examination performance being available, then this has consequences under examination law:

  • There is no confirmation that the admission requirements have been met; examinations may not be taken if
    • a third attempt of the corresponding module examination has already been finitively failed;
    • the module examination has already been passed, retakes of passed examinations to improve grades are excluded; 
    • the degree has been finitively failed and therefore, no more examinations may be taken in the degree program. 
  • The examination procedure has not been officially opened, i.e. the examination procedure has not been made a matter of record in the examination office, possible deadlines can therefore not be tracked.
  • Assessments of examinations that have not been registered are potentially contestable.
Do the registration and the examination have to take place in the same semester for classes during the course of study?

No, they don't have to. Typically, students register for these exams in the middle of the semester. In this case, the final module examination can also extend into the coming semester.

Please note that any examination that concludes a course-related assignment must also be registered by the student in the examination office!
