We are connected to the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology (IWS) through Additive Production and Laser Research. Our Institute Director Professor Christoph Leyens has run the Fraunhofer giant since 2018. From 1997 to 2018 our Senior Research Professor Eckhard Beyer was Institute Director at the Fraunhofer IWS.
We are connected to the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials through powder metallurgy and research in the area of sintered and composite materials. Our Professor Bernd Kieback has run the Dresden section of IFAM since 1992.
We are connected to the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research through research into metallic materials and metal physics. Our Professor Kornelius Nielsch has run the institute of that name at the IFW since 2015.
We are connected to the Helmholtz Centre Dresden-Rossendorf through the AREVA Endowed Chair of Imaging Techniques in Energy and Process Engineering. The chair holder, Professor Uwe Hampel, runs the Department for Experimental Thermal Fluid Dynamics at the HZDR. Our Professor Kerstin Eckert has been jointly appointed since 2016. She runs the Department of Transport Processes at Interfaces at the HZDR.
We are connected to the Leibniz Institute of Surface Engineering (IOM) through the Endowed Chair for Ultra-Precision Surface Machining Using Ions and Plasma. The chair holder, Professor Thomas Arnold, runs the Work Group for Non-Conventional Surface Machining at IOM.
We are connected to the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) through research into solar fuel generation. Our Professor Christian Sattler has run the Department of Solar Process Engineering at the DLR since 2011.
Since 2013 the DLR_School_Lab has operated in Dresden. It is academically coordinated by our Institute Director Professor Christoph Leyens.
We are connected to the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden e.V. (IPF) through research in the area of polymer materials and elastomer technology. Our Professor Markus Stommel has run the Institute for Polymer Materials at IPF since 2020.
We are connected to Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS) through research into inorganic non-metallic materials. Our Professor Alexander Michaelis has been Director of the IKTS since 2004.
We are connected to the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research through technology development for productive biofilms. By a joint appointment our Professor Katja Bühler has held the chair of that name since 2015.
