Karl Kolle Prize for a thesis in lightweight engineering
The coveted Karl Kolle Prize for the best master's thesis was awarded to Dipl.-Ing. Willi Zschiebsch on July 16th, 2022, at the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Engineering at Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK Leipzig). In his thesis "Conception and Implementation of a Methodology for the Realization and Optimization of Automated Development Processes in Fiber Composite Lightweight Design", Mr. Zschiebsch addressed the question of how experts from different disciplines can effectively collaborate on the development of a lightweight product. For selected workflows in the development of high-performance components, such as design, layout and optimization, extensive analyses of the automation potential were carried out. Willi Zschiebsch's work also showed how the development process as a whole could be accelerated and the quality of the component improved at the same time. Using a software tool he developed himself, he was able to significantly reduce the high costs and development times that occur in practice as a result of sometimes contradictory optimization goals. The award-winning master's thesis was written in collaboration with the TU Dresden and was supervised at the HTWK Leipzig by Prof. Robert Böhm (Chair of Lightweight Design with Composite Materials) and co-supervised in Dresden at the ILK by Dr.-Ing. Angelos Filippatos (Dresden Center for Intelligent Materials, DCIM).
We congratulate the award winner and wish him all the best for the future!

KARL KOLLE STIFTUNG
The founder Karl Kolle saw it as his life's work to be involved in the social and community environment. The foundation's declared aim is therefore very much the "education and upbringing" of young people at home and abroad. The foundation was established in 1998 by Dortmund entrepreneur Karl Kolle. The foundation's assets were based on the company KODA Stanz- und Biegetechnik GmbH - a supplier to the automotive industry. In addition to education, the most important areas of support include "science and research". In this combination, the foundation awards scholarships for particularly outstanding students and offers prizes for excellent scientific work. Since 2006, the Karl Kolle Foundation has supported students of the HTWK Leipzig during study visits abroad and awards students for outstanding technical-scientific theses. The Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees of the KARL-KOLLE-Foundation decide jointly on the awarding of grants. The Board of Trustees includes representatives from science, business and social fields of activity. II www.karl-kolle-stiftung.de
