Objective: |
In the accessory drive train of turbofan engines, highly dynamic effects can occur due to varying operating conditions of the accessories and contrary requirements regarding the power supply. A consequence of these complex vibrational phenomena are reoccurring and transient overloads. The magnitude of these overloads is so high that they are relevant for the design process of the transmission components. Another possible result can be a decrease of the components’ lifespan; hence, an assessment regarding their influence on the reliability of the overall system should be performed. |
Approach: | To achieve the objective, an analysis of the drive train will be performed. From this analysis, relevant boundary conditions for the test rig design as well as input parameters for the simulation model will be derived. Subsequently, the design process for the test rig, the procurement of its parts and, finally, the assembly and the commissioning of the test rig will be executed. In the meantime, a holistic MBS model of the accessory drive train will be created and validated using the test rig results. |
