Degree Program Profile
The master’s program in Textile Machinery and High Perfomance Material Technology combines mechanical engineering, textile engineering, and materials engineering in an interdisciplinary and research-oriented curriculum. The program focuses on textile machinery and high-performance textile materials, as well as their development and application across various industrial sectors.
You will deepen your knowledge of mathematics and engineering and expand your expertise in textile machinery and textile engineering, as well as in the field of high-performance textile materials. In doing so, you will engage with the development and application of textile products and technologies across the entire value chain—from fibers and materials through design and manufacturing to the finished product.
A special focus is placed on technical textiles and innovative textile materials. Through the close integration of research and teaching, you’ll learn to understand complex technical relationships, independently address scientific questions, and develop innovative solutions for various fields of application.
What to Expect from the Program
The four-semester master’s program combines advanced mathematical and engineering fundamentals with specialized training in Textile Machinery and High Perfomance Material Technology. Required modules include, among others:

You will learn to apply specialized and interdisciplinary knowledge to specific engineering challenges. Lectures, exercises, lab sessions, and project-based learning formats combine theoretical foundations with practical application and scientific research.
There is a special emphasis on research: During the research internship, you will independently work on a scientific or application-oriented project. This will allow you to apply your knowledge to current issues in textile machinery and textile engineering and gain experience in scientific project work.
The program concludes with a master’s thesis and a colloquium. You will address a problem from current research or a specific application in Textile Machinery and High Perfomance Material Technology, and you will present and defend your findings.
Individual Specialization Profiles
Through required-elective modules, you can tailor your program to your interests and career goals. You can either delve deeper into a specific area of textile and apparel engineering or combine various fields of application.
Technical Textiles and Textile Products
You will focus on the development and design of complex textile products and become familiar with modern machinery and technologies for technical textiles. This includes, among other things, textile construction, garment manufacturing, and the development of innovative products.
Textile Machinery and Production
Another focus is on the design, construction, and analysis of textile machinery, as well as on processes and machines for various areas of textile engineering. Production organization and process control also play an important role.
High-Performance Textile Materials and Functionalization
You will deepen your knowledge of fiber-based materials and their specific properties. Possible topics range from functionalization and interfacial design to fiber-based biomaterials and implants.
Digital Development and New Applications
Digital methods open up new possibilities for the development of textile products and materials. These include, for example, 3D CAE technology for fiber-based materials and virtual product development. Additional elective modules focus on textile finishing, nonwoven technology, textile recycling, and resource efficiency.
