At TU Dresden, there are many help and support services particularly geared toward international students and staff.
Consultation
For legal questions, difficulties with the authorities or everyday issues, there various consultation points at the university and the City of Dresden that you can turn to for assistance.
Ausländerrat Dresden offers consultation on various topics. In addition to a general advice center, they also offer legal advice and social counseling.
Studentenwerk Dresden offers a social counseling service for support with social, financial and studies-related issues – including one-off financial aid and free-lunch cards for the canteens.
The Refugee Law Clinic, founded and operated by TU Dresden students, offers free legal counsel for refugees and asylum seekers in Dresden.
Studentenwerk Dresden offers legal advice for students regarding

There are a number of organizations and services offering support to new residents at TU Dresden and in the surrounding area, from arrival and integration to daily life in Dresden and at the university.

There is a broad range of buddy programs at TU Dresden, which pair up students of various nationalities and help international students in particular get settled in Dresden.
Helpline Dresden (coordinated by RAA Sachsen) is a 24/7 telephone help center for people with little to no knowledge of German. It is available in English, Arabic and German. We help in emergencies. We help in everyday life.

IDA stands for In Dresden Ankommen (Arrive in Dresden) and is a student initiative that has set itself the goal of making it easier for refugees in particular to start studying at the TU Dresden. For example, ABC tables, various language courses and intercultural events are organized.
Medical assistance
The Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine campus includes both an international medical practice as well as an outpatient clinic for victims of trauma. There are also several psychosocial counseling offices.
TU Dresden’s Psychological Counseling Office is geared towards all university employees and offers counseling on
- Symptoms of burn-out and depression
- Self-doubt, anxiety
- Addiction, consumer behavior, dependence*
- Stress and inability to recover
- Work overload and mental underload
- Conflicts and bullying at work
- Insecurities in dealing with (mentally) ill colleagues
... as well as other professional or personal issues that could be bothering you.
The Studentenwerk’s Psychosocial Counseling Office is aimed at all students and covers issues such as
- Doubts about continuing studies
- Work difficulties
- Exam anxiety
- Problems completing studies
- Low self-esteem
- Social issues
- Problems with alcohol, drugs, or online addiction
- Depressive states
Couples’ counseling is also available.
The City of Dresden’s Psychosocial Crisis Service offers support
- in crises caused by difficult living conditions
- in situations of acute stress and risk of suicide
- in conflicts with partners or family
- with separation and divorce
- after loss
- in strained situations with family, environment or work
- after traumatic experiences
- with the search for further services
The international medical practice at the University Hospital Dresden offers the following services:
- Care from general practitioners, specialists in internal medicine, pediatricians and gynecologists
- Vaccination advice and services
- Physical examinations for children and adults
- Prenatal care
- Psychosomatic primary care
- Lab work, ECGs
- Private health insurance services (payment by EC or credit card only)
Interpreters are available at the practice to ensure the best treatment possible.
The Trauma Outpatient Clinic’s services are directed at patients suffering from the psychosocial consequences of traumatic experiences. In addition to comprehensive diagnostics surrounding post-traumatic stress disorders or comorbidities (anxiety, depression, somatoform disorders), the staff will take initial treatment steps, impart stabilizing techniques and provide counseling about follow-up interventions.
Assistance for persons affected by harassment, discrimination and violence
If you have been a victim of discrimination, violence or harassment, you can find help from regional societies and associations. In acute cases, you should inform the police or other emergency services immediately. TU Dresden takes matters of this kind very seriously and will investigate reported cases in detail.

The association Opferhilfe Sachsen provides counseling and support for victims of crimes and can help in the search for therapists, doctors and lawyers.
RAA Sachsen’s “Support” project aids victims of racist and extreme right-wing violence, in particular with

- Assistance in dealing with police, lawyers, doctors, court hearings
