Connected Communities in Action: Environmental Humanities Spring Schools 2025 in Venice
As part of the Connected Community Environmental Humanities of the EUTOPIA Alliance, the Spring School "Environmental Humanities as a Regenerative Process. Reconnecting Ethics, Knowledge, and Action" took place at Ca' Foscari University in Venice. The community brings together partner universities from Venice, Warwick, Lisbon and Dresden - with the aim of developing new approaches in research and teaching on environmental and sustainability topics.
In an innovative, co-creative format based on the Theory-U method, the participants explored ethical, epistemological and practical aspects of regenerative processes in the environmental humanities. A concrete case study from the Venetian lagoon served as a starting point for discussions on how ecological and social healing processes can be jointly conceived and initiated.
The Spring School was rated very positively by the participants. The feedback particularly emphasized the productive exchange between the different scientific traditions and methodological perspectives. It was precisely this diversity that led to inspiring and sometimes surprising results.
A complementary EUTOPIA Spring School on Ecolinguistics also took place in Venice on May 15 and 16, 2025. It was dedicated to the interplay of language, discourse, power and sustainable change - with interactive methods for collaboratively analyzing and reshaping ecological narratives.
With these formats, the Connected Community Environmental Humanities has provided an important impetus for European cooperation in teaching and research.
