S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o Residency
Since 2024, the Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections (Kustodie) has been a partner of S+T+ARTS (Science, Technology and Arts), an initiative of the European Commission that aims to combine technology and artistic practice in the best possible way.
As part of the S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o program, the Kustodie is hosting three of a total of ten residencies. The internationally successful artists Johanna Bruckner, Carolyn Kirschner and Theda Nilsson-Eicke have been guests at TUD for thirteen months since December 2024. In their S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o residencies, they will conduct artistic research on Exploring Human-AI Relationships (Johanna Bruckner), Physics of Life (Carolyn Kirschner) and Modeling the Mind (Theda Nilsson-Eicke).
During the residencies, the artists will receive support from experts and can draw on the resources of TUD. Selected works by the three artists will be on display from May to July 2025 in the exhibition S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o Showing in TUD´s university gallery in the Görges Building.
The Kustodie is also part of the consortium alongside Ars Electronica (AT), INOVA+ (PT), La French Tech Grande Provence (FR), Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg (DE), Salzburg Festival (AT), Sónar (ES) and T6 Ecosystems (IT) for the three-year project duration (2024-2026) of S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o. The Kustodie is continuing its successful interdisciplinary collaboration in the context of art-science formats and is cooperating for S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o with the Immersive Experience Lab of Jun.-Prof. Matthew McGinity, the Interactive Science Lab at the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS) and the Cluster of Excellence Physics of Life at TUD, Dresden University of Fine Arts (HfBK Dresden) and Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), among others.
Since 2017, the Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections has regularly invited artists and artistic collectives to TU Dresden to work collaboratively with scientists on specific issues. In the Art Science Labs and exhibition projects, internationally renowned contemporary artists work in exchange with university researchers on virulent contemporary issues.
With the establishment of the Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden 2020 and the Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden located at the Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections, a format has also been established that offers international artists the opportunity to become part of the scientific community at TU Dresden for six months. The program is aimed at visual artists from the fields of performance, installation, media art (video, sound, etc.) who also understand their artistic practice in terms of time-based art. The projects of the Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden with the annually changing artists in residence are closely linked to the themes of the Schaufler Kolleg@TU Dresden and promote each other.
The project is funded by the European Union under the Grant Agreement No 101135691. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union. The European Union cannot be held responsible for them.
