Islands of Minds - Art education students exhibit their work
Islands of Minds
Examination exhibition of the Department of Art Education at TU Dresden
University Gallery TU Dresden
July 18 to September 12, 2025
Opening: Thursday, July 17, 2025, 6 pm
The idea of the desert island has already been explored in numerous Hollywood films and thought experiments. But don't we all live on our own mental island anyway? Can we change our own perspective at all? And if so, how can we externalize it in order to create connections to and with each other in the vast ocean?
The "Island of Minds" exhibition attempts to make visible what happens on our inner islands. To this end, 25 student teachers of art education are exploring a variety of themes in sculptural, painterly and media works, whose unexpected connections are waiting to be discovered. The works on display cover a wide range of topics - from dragons and pirates, myths, iconography, spaces and the blurring of their boundaries to collectives, group affiliations, ambivalent childhood experiences and biographical confrontations.
The exhibition is curated by Svea Duwe and Thomas Judisch in collaboration with the participants and those responsible for the Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections gallery.
