Digitization & Collection Database
Collection database
The Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections supports the collections of the TU Dresden in the digitization and digital recording of their holdings. Step by step, objects are examined, photographed and recorded in the internal collection database.
By setting up a central collection database, the Office for Academic Heritage is pursuing several goals: Firstly, the preservation, maintenance and management of the collections should be optimized. To this end, documentation of the state of preservation, restoration measures, provenance research and loans will be carried out and stored in the collection database in future. The central aim is to improve the usability of the collections as an infrastructure for research and teaching. Research in the database via the Internet is a matter of course. The provision of collection-related object data also promises to increase the visibility of these unique collections and their (re)activation in research and teaching as well as a resource for non-academic contexts and formats.
Since 2019, TU Dresden has had a modern platform for managing its collections in the form of Robotron*Daphne. The Daphne database is hosted and maintained at the ZIH (Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing) at TU Dresden.
University Collections Online
The digital documentation of the university collections with over one million very heterogeneous objects began at the end of 2019. The first records went online in May 2021. Since then, new objects have been added on an ongoing basis.
The online portal of TUD's collections can be here.
