Junior Surgery Symposium
Medicine is predominantly studied by women, who now also make up the majority of practicing doctors. However, prevailing stereotypes indicate that certain subjects are more suitable for women and others for men, and so the gender distribution in the individual disciplines is very heterogeneous. Surgical subjects in particular are subject to such stereotypes and are still seen as a male domain. Wrongly so, as insights into everyday professional life show. Questions such as "Becoming a surgeon? Is that something for me?" or "What prospects do I have in the cutting disciplines?" are frequently asked by prospective doctors, partly because they are unsettled by reproduced stereotypes. Students and young doctors will receive answers to these and other questions at the Young Surgeons Symposium on November 13, 2024 from 5-8 p.m. in the Deanery Building (H40), seminar room 108. In keynote speeches, surgeons at various career stages from different surgical disciplines will present their clinical and scientific career paths. At the get-together afterwards, there will be time for individual discussions on all questions relating to career development in academic surgery. The event is supported by the Equal Opportunities Team and the Recruiting Team. You can find the current program here. Registration and further information: . If required, individual childcare can be provided during the event.
