TU Dresden’s Equality Concept
TU Dresden has expressed its commitment to diversity and equal opportunities in its mission statement: “Technische Universität Dresden is committed to a balance between professional and family requirements as well as true equality of opportunity for all university members.” Staying true to this aspiration, TU Dresden revised and updated its Equality Concept (PDF) in 2018. Gender equality is a priority in TU Dresden’s diversity strategy, which also comprises the topics of family friendliness and inclusion of people with disabilities as well as ethnicity and social background.
TU Dresden’s Diversity Strategy
Universities are subject to continuous change, and addressing the topic of diversity has become a central topic for university development. With this in mind, TU Dresden developed its Diversity Strategy (PDF) in 2016. Diversity as topic comprises key factors such as gender, health, ethnicity, social background, religion and philosophy, age and sexual orientation. These aspects of diversity shape the way we live.
The School of Medicine’s Equal Opportunity Plan
For the first time, the School of Medicine has created its own Equal Opportunity Plan (PDF) (2020–2030) and established goals, with the aim of implementing gender equality at the School and Faculty of Medicine as prescribed by law. The plan outlines four key areas, underpinned by corresponding measures to achieve the set goals. We intend to carry out a quality management check at regular intervals in collaboration with TU Dresden’s Center for Quality Analysis, so as to make adjustments to the measures if necessary.
“Setting boundaries” action plan
Action plan on handling sexual harassment and stalking at places of work and study
Sexual harassment and stalking are taboo topics, but they are prevalent in our society. Overstepping boundaries is an infringement of human dignity and constitutes a serious contribution to a hostile work environment. The Women’s and Equal Opportunities Officer at University Hospital Dresden and the Equal Opportunities Officer at the Faculty of Medicine have created an action plan (PDF) on handling sexual harassment and stalking in collaboration with the Personnel Representation Councils and University Hospital Dresden’s HR Division. The aim of the document is to explain and raise awareness of sexual harassment and stalking among members of staff, trainees and students at University Hospital Dresden. For those affected by these issues, the handbook offers concrete assistance on what to do in a conflict situation, the perpetrators are shown the consequences of their actions, and there are explanations on how to act in the event of sexual harassment and stalking. We want to prevent these situations from arising, with the aim of avoiding and ending harassment entirely. To this end, it is necessary to consider the problem directly and to speak out openly and consistently against sexual harassment at work and at university, but also against disrespectful and assaultive behavior that violates the dignity of others. A workplace that is characterized by mutual respect is essential for staff and students to undertake their work and to feel content in the workplace. All staff, trainees and students can contribute to this by treating each other with respect. If you are affected by these issues or have seen something like this occur, you can contact the Equal Opportunities Officers of the School and Faculty or the Women’s and Equal Opportunities Officer at University Hospital Dresden using the incident report form and the sexual harassment reporting form(contact details for the Equal Opportunities Officer at the Faculty of Medicine, ). You may also request printed copies or flyers for your department by contacting the Officer for the Protection of Women’s Rights and Equal Opportunities of the University Hospital Dresden ()
