Study Human Medicine at TU Dresden
Content and structure of the programme
MEDiC is a model course of study in human medicine at TU Dresden, established at the medical campus of Chemnitz Hospital. This innovative model of medical training differs from traditional teaching methods. The content of the individual specialist disciplines is taught in a practical, organ-system-related manner within competence fields. Modern digital teaching methods play an important role in this.
Based on the licensing regulations for doctors, the course comprises 32 areas of expertise. After two years of study, students take the first part of the equivalence examination, which corresponds to the first section of the medical examination. The second and third parts follow one year after passing the first part. A further two years of study are required before taking the second part of the medical examination. The practical year begins once the second part has been successfully completed. This year consists of four training stages. The third section of the medical examination is taken after the practical year has been completed.
Throughout their studies, students participate in an integrative mentoring programme with both, scientific and clinical-practical focuses.

What opportunities are available after graduation?
Upon successfully completing the degree programme, graduates receive a full licence to practise medicine in accordance with the licensing regulations for physicians. Depending on their preferences, they can then work in inpatient or outpatient healthcare in the relevant department. In any case, graduates have a wide range of opportunities to pursue their professional careers, either in their own practice or as employees in various settings, such as clinics, the public health service, supply services, works services, medical officer services, and universities and research institutions.
The MEDiC model course prepares students for future employment in the Chemnitz area and rural regions by facilitating networking opportunities. Through interdisciplinary cooperation with other departments and a high proportion of digitally supported teaching, students prepare themselves for modern forms of work, even in less populated areas. After graduating, they have the best opportunities to settle in Chemnitz and the south-west Saxony region, or to continue their education in specific departments.
