2nd Funding Period
Solid-State and In-situ NMR Investigations of 2D Materials
The project aims to investigate the structure and dynamics of novel 2DMs at the atomic/molecular level. Studies will now focus specially to surface properties and functional groups of 2DMs. One major topic in the second funding period will thus be the study of catalytically/electrocatalytically active sites. Another major topic will be the understanding of ion storage mechanisms of 2DMs at the atomic/molecular level. To this end, a combination of ex-situ and in-situ/operando nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic methods will be applied.
1st Funding Period
Solid-State and In-Situ NMR Investigations of 2D Materials
This project investigates structures of 2DMs, e.g. single layer metal organic frameworks (MOFenes) and 2D covalent organic frameworks (COFs), by NMR spectroscopic techniques. Surface properties will be characterized, if possible in site-specific fashion (site-specific isotope-labelling schemes). The influence of synthesis/preparation conditions upon the products will be investigated. This includes the elucidation of synthesis pathways, i.e. monitoring of the reaction intermediates, products, and side products. In-situ NMR spectroscopic studies will be used to investigate the interactions between 2DMs and guest molecules. For surface characterization a special set-up for high-pressure in-situ NMR studies and suitable gases will be developed.
