Commerzbank AG dissertation prize for physicist Dr. Matthias Geyer
On July 8, 2022, promising young scientists from TU Dresden were once again awarded the Commerzbank AG Dissertation Prizes and the Dr. Walter Seipp Prize of the Commerzbank Foundation. For 25 years, the Commerzbank Foundation and the Dresden Cultural Foundation of Commerzbank have been honoring extraordinary dissertations by young scientists in this way, thus providing targeted support for the next generation of scientists.
The physicist Dr. Matthias Geyer was awarded the dissertation prize for his dissertation "Models for Spin-Dependent Transport in Helical Molecules", which he wrote at the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology. With his mathematical formulations, Dr. Geyer fundamentally expands the understanding of previously largely unexplained and only experimentally observed chirality-induced spin phenomena and thus opens up perspectives for further work on these phenomena, but also on innovative technical systems such as organic semiconductors and quantum computers. He receives prize money of 1,000 euros for his work.
The second dissertation prize was awarded to the art scientist Dr. Elisabeth Ansel. The Walter Seipp Prize, endowed with 4,00 euros, went to bioinformatician Dr. Melissa Adasme.
The award ceremony took place in the ballroom of the rectorate of TU Dresden and was accompanied by greetings from the rector of TU Dresden, Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger, as well as keynote speeches by Burkhard von der Osten, Managing Director of Commerzbank AG Dresden, and Heike Heuberger from the board of the Commerzbank Foundation.
