Astrophysics
Prof. Hasinger and his group work in the field of astrophysics. Particular areas of interest are X-ray astronomy, primordial black holes and gravitational waves. Prof. Hasinger is also the designated director of the German Center for Astrophysics (DZA).
On July 18, 2024, Prof. Hasinger was welcomed to the TUD as part of the "University-wide Inaugural Lecture" series and gave a lecture on "The Fade of the Universe". Prof. Hasinger is internationally recognized for his work in the field of X-ray astronomy and the study of black holes as the nuclei of galaxies. He has contributed significantly to the study of cosmic X-ray background radiation. His research shows that this radiation emanates mainly from active black holes in distant galaxies and that black holes are probably engines for the evolution of galaxies.
