Traces of particles in the ATLAS detector at the LHC accelerator at CERN. In masterclasses, students learn to identify the particles in the original data based on their patterns in the detector.
Data from proton-proton collisions are recorded at the ATLAS experiment. How can this data be prepared for young people so that they can carry out their own analyses? What concepts and explanations are necessary to ensure that particle physics does not remain a closed book? What materials do teachers need to bring this cutting-edge physics into the classroom?
We address these and other didactic research questions in science communication in our daily work, always with the aim of finding the best formats and presentations for bridging the gap between research and the public and bringing the essence of science into schools as authentically and interactively as possible. The resulting didactic theses, conference articles, lecture slides, posters and teaching materials are compiled in the following excerpt from the FIS publication database of TU Dresden.
Supplementary overviews of the science communication working group can be found for offers for (teacher training) students under Theses, for student research projects carried out at the IKTP under Internship and BeLL, and for lectures at public events and in schools under Public lectures.
