Together with the SLUB, the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics cordially invite you to a book launch with Astrid Viciano on January 14, 2026 at 6 pm. In her book, she tells the story of nuclear physicists who helped to prevent the Nazi atomic bomb.
Shortly before Hitler's rise to power in 1933, the young scientist Wolfgang Gentner and his French colleague Frédéric Joliot-Curie meet at the Institute du Radium in Paris. It was a time of groundbreaking discoveries in physics. In 1940, Gentner returned to Paris on behalf of the German uranium project. He was to supervise Joliot-Curie's research and provide the Nazis with important findings for the construction of the atomic bomb. But his French colleague begins to work undercover for the Résistance and his laboratory becomes the center of the resistance ... .
