Teaching

Our professors and associates teach experimental and theoretical physics in all courses of study with main subject physics and realize the "particle and nuclear physics" field in close relation to the research fields of the working groups. We also realize Radiation protection courses and work in the secondary education studies of physics.

Research

Within the scope of research in particle physics, scientists are trying to answer fundamental questions of humanity: What are the basic components from which everything is built? What forces do they hold together? Why do nuclear cores disintegrate? How did the universe develop? The scientists develop and operate complex experiments at home and abroad.

Communica­tion

The general public is also eager to see how particle physicists are looking for answers to these fundamental questions. We are responding to this interest in our research area with various offers. Especially for pupils, but also for teachers or students, the IKTP offers a wide range of possibilities to actively experience particle physics.

The institute

The Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics conducts basic research in the field of experimental and theoretical elementary particle physics, on the structure and formation of our universe as well as on interactions between its smallest constituents, and also does research in the field of experimental nuclear astrophysics and the measurement of radiation doses in technical and medical applications of nuclear and particle physics. In addition, the institute realizes several national and international projects on the transfer of scientific knowledge to the public.
The Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics comprises 8 working groups with a total of more than 80 employees and students. In addition, there are close cooperations with the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf, the European Research Center CERN as well as other national and international research facilities.
