Elective Courses
During the course of their studies, students must pass ONE elective module. The following Electives are currently available:

- Exam: Written (90min) AND Oral (15min)
- 4 hrs/wk and self-study
- The module lasts one semester
The module covers language useful for use on campus as well as reading and listening strategies with geographical and cultural relevance. The foreign language skills acquired in the module depend on the level the student studies - A1, A2 or B1 of the CEFR.

- Summer Semester
The course is a cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural and collaborative learning experience providing participants the opportunity to identify, evaluate and apply innovative solutions to environmental problems. Students will learn about the many challenges associated with the transition to a sustainable society, and will work together in multidisciplinary teams to analyze real-world investment projects meeting rigorous standards for sustainability, strategic fit, financial performance, and business practicality.

- Exam: one written task requiring 20 hours' work and a presentation lasting 90 minutes
- Lectures (1 hr/wk), practical sessions (1 hr/wk), seminars (1 hr/wk) and self-study
- Winter Semester
Current topics highly relevant for the research in Materials Science (and other disciplines) are discussed in presentations by experts and in talks by the participating students. While the experts give a general overview on different aspects, in their presentations the students go into more detail of selected topics. In addition to the scientific content, invited talks given by experts from science and industry and on soft skills are part of the courseconcept (e.g. on basics of scientific presenting, publishing and bibliometrics, university rankings, etc.).

The module includes an introduction to academic work and aspects of good academic practice as well as practical insights from external representatives from various fields of activity and practice as well as research. Furthermore, the module includes qualification paths for a doctorate at TU Dresden.
