FAQ - Exchange Students
For a stay at the TU Dresden we require a language level of at least B1 German and English to be able to follow the lecture units. However, a level of B2 in both German and English would be better.
Furthermore, a German course can be taken at the TU. All important information can be found here: https://tudias.de/de/sprachkurse/deutsch-als-fremdsprache.html
Ms. Freitag is responsible for the timetables and has the most up-to-date information about the current conditions of the courses you can take Please contact petra.freitag1@tu-dresden.de from the Office of Student Organization directly after your arrival in Dresden to get advised and enrolled in your modules.
These changes should be completed in Table C/D of the Learning Agreement (or Table B1 in the DLA) and sent directly to Ms. Judith Josupeit for signature.
Here is a rough overview of the ECTS distribution:
- If you choose a module that lasts one semester and take the regular exam, you will receive the full ECTS number indicated in the study plan (see appendix).
- It is possible to discuss additional examination credits with the lecturers. Accordingly, you do not take the regular exam, but give a presentation, write an essay or simply take a smaller exam. This is often the case, for example, when students want to take modules that go over two semesters but are only with us in Dresden for one semester. The lecturers then fill out the "Certificate of Attendance" (Certificate of Attendance ) at the end of the semester. With this special arrangement you will receive 3 ECTS after passing the exam.
- If you do not want to take any exams at all, this is also possible. In this case, we recommend that you have the lecturer fill out the attendance list (Attendance List) after each lecture/seminar. With this list you will receive 1 ECTS for the participation.
In principle, this is possible. With regard to the ECTS points, you have different options if you choose a course that goes over two semesters.
- Since you do not know the content of the material from the other semester, it would be advisable to arrange an individual examination with the lecturer. Accordingly, you do not take the regular exam, but give a presentation, write an essay, or simply take a smaller exam. The lecturer will then fill out the "Certificate of Attendance" at the end of the semester. With this special arrangement, you will receive 3 ECTS after passing the exam.
- If you do not want to take any exams at all, this is also possible. In this case, we recommend that you have the lecturer fill out the attendance list (see appendix) after each lecture/seminar. With this list you will receive 1 ECTS for the attendance.
- In addition, you can try to catch up on the content material of the last semester and write the regular exam at the end of the semester. In doing so, you will receive full ECTS points.
No, but it would always be helpful to know why you do not want to attend a certain course anymore. For example, if there are overlaps with other courses, we will see that the schedules are adjusted in the next semester. This helps us to organize and coordinate future stays with us in Dresden.
The current exam times and the period for exam enrollment are always announced promptly at the following website: https://tu-dresden.de/mn/psychologie/studium/pruefungsamt/pruefungstermine
In order to be registered for the exams, please fill out the attached document for each of your regular exam performances and send it to Ms. Herrmann at the Psychology Examination Office ().
All necessary information to fill out the document can be found at the web address linked above. Ms. Herrmann will then enroll you in your required exams and send you a confirmation of this.
A preliminary examination is a prerequisite for taking part in the examination of the respective module. Most of the time it is a lecture or a written paper within the semester. Often the lecturers address the preliminary exams in the first lectures or seminars, so that you have enough time to prepare for them. If you are not sure whether you have to take an exam for a module and if so, which exam you have to take, please contact the respective lecturer again.
On thenext page you can see an example of a filled out Transcript of Records. Please fill out all the fields that are highlighted in grey with the information about your exchange.
