Design tool for automatic planning of smart buildings
Dagmar Möbius
Energy efficiency is a key criteria for anyone building a house nowadays. If certain functions such as lighting, heating and air conditioning run automatically, it is possible to save as much as 30 percent of energy. A configurator developed at TU Dresden assists developers and craftspeople in creating designs that meet this goal. The tool is AI-based and the basic version is available for free on the internet.
Lighting should switch off automatically after a certain number of minutes. If windows have been opened to let fresh air in, the heating turns off. Room temperatures can be readjusted automatically. Likewise, the ventilation system maintains a preset air quality. These are just some examples of requests from house builders.
Intelligent buildings for energy efficiency
“There’s no need to do without when it comes to saving energy,” said Prof. Klaus Kabitzsch. “Instead, we should aim to achieve optimal usage properties with lower energy consumption. Therefore, we define energy efficiency as avoiding waste,” explains the Senior Professor for Technical Information Systems of the Faculty of Computer Science at Technische Universität Dresden. His team are working on solving problems adeptly as we move closer to smart buildings. They have developed a virtual tool for room automation in their many years of innovative research work.
Intuitive and legally sound
AUTERAS LITE can be used by everyone in any web browser, and improves the understanding between experts and customers. Fed with artificial intelligence, users can specify the functions they desire for each project. The tool then shows the energy efficiency class (from A to D) with each question answered. Texts and videos explain the automation functions as needed. The design tool can therefore also be used to learn about room automation. Moreover, the websites’ tools are in line with market standards, legally sound and deliver definitive results. Floor plans, as used by architects and contractors, can be uploaded easily.
A guide for everyone
You can learn more about the intelligent buildings of the future and present on a dedicated YouTube channel, which also provides videos explaining how to use the configurator. Not only does this help minimize potential errors and enable a comparison of different technical solutions, it also calculates the highest possible energy efficiency class.
Digital dialog and trade fair
All your questions on the tools’ capabilities, legal requirements and the AUTERAS®- Team will be answered on June 16, 2023, from 11 am to 12 noon at Digitaltag 2023, a nationwide event exploring the topic of digitalization. In mid-March at the “ISH 23” trade fair in Frankfurt am Main dedicated to HVAC + Water, visitors had the opportunity to try out the configurator tor themselves.
