Presentation of Golden Diploma Certificates in Havana
At the end of September, more than 60 people met in Havana for a workshop on expanding the network of former DAAD scholarship holders in Cuba. Among the participants were Cubans with doctorates who had studied in the GDR, as well as scholarship holders from recent years who had mainly conducted research at German universities. Felix Zühlsdorf, DAAD Lektor in Havana, first presented the funding opportunities for alumni before presenting "Golden Diplomas" on behalf of TU Dresden to alumni who graduated there more than 50 years ago. A video message from the TUD Alumni Office brought a little Dresden feeling to Havana.
During the event, there was discussion on how to strengthen the network thematically and visibility. Zühlsdorf commented, "The goal was to get young people back on board more so that they can continue to benefit from the academic offerings in Germany. The alumni would like to see more exchange and would like to organize their own events. Academic exchange on sustainability goals was desired, but also on universal topics such as migration." The workshop also dealt with issues surrounding reaching as many people as possible with the offers of the DAAD or other scholarship providers, and how to raise the visibility and organization of alumni activities.
The workshop was funded by the DAAD and took place in the framework of the ISSEM (International Summerschool on Economics and Management) at HU Berlin.
