Find all information about the events, soon, and how to register via email below. The office hours start on Tuesday, April 10th 2018, in the Cultural Office at the International Office of TU Dresden (BSS 669, Strehlener Straße 24).

Information Day of the International Office for international students
On Thursday, April 5th 2018 , you will meet many important people and organizations that will help you to study successfully at TU Dresden. Above all, the tutors will support you at the start of your studies and go on a campus tour with you. The Culture Team and student organizations will be glad to meet you at the info market.

Please fill out the online registration form and then pay the fee as soon as possible during office hours at the Cultural Office in the International Office. Only after payment the place is bindingly booked. Please bring your student ID with you when paying. Payment via bank transfer or card is not possible.
Note: Your registration is NOT valid as a reservation. First come, first served.
The cultural programme is open to international and German undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at TU Dresden. The programme for PhD students and international guest scientists is organised by the Welcome Center.
With your registration you accept the terms and conditions of the Cultural Office.
The excursions are mainly offered in German. Tutors will translate into English during guided tours and workshops.

I honestly would like to thank the Kulturbüro of the TUD for the big chances they gave me to get to know better the city Dresden. The organisation and the involvement in different kind of activities have to be considered as a treasure. I think it is not so common to go abroad and find people who are good and kind.
The Cultural Office staff keep you in discovering a new city, giving you little advices in order to enjoy every day pleasures the city can give (without them this couldn’t be the same!)
The trips and the chances to win tickets for concerts or other activities are a gift for me and I guess for every foreign student who comes here. I really appreciate their work and the way they organize things. The more activities they would organize, the more I would like to be present to enjoy Dresden with fun, happiness and joy! J
When I first arrived in Dresden to start my Erasmus I was completely lost and alone, I had no friends and I didn’t know where to go. Basically, the normal feeling that everyone can experience when arriving in a new country.
When at the Immatriculation day I saw for the first time the poster of the Cultural Office, I must admit that I was a little suspicious but curious at the same time.
Some time I can be very shy and stubborn, but then I thought:” Why not? Let’s start this adventure in the right way, I should try and register for a few things”.
So, I tried the Welcome tour on our very own DVB tram and I was really amazed, everyone was so friendly and enthusiastic and in just one hour or so (while sitting on a tram going around the beautiful city of Dresden) I felt that I had made the right decision. A few days later I decided to register to all the trips that they were offering during this Winter Semester. And I have to say that I absolutely didn’t regret it.
In my opinion the best trip of all was Berlin, we have seen so many things in just four days, the price of the trip (only 90 euros everything included) was ridiculous considering that everything was so well planned and organized that I was more and more amazed every day, even if the weather was very bad and cold. Everyday there was a new reason to get ready and start the day in the best way possible: with the huge buffet breakfast of the hotel. I am just kidding, but it’s true 😊
The girls working for the Cultural Office are like angels (yes, exactly like the three Charlie’s angels 😊), they are always so enthusiastic and ready to help and give you advices and tips about the trips or the life in Dresden and they never hesitate to give you a big smile even if it’s freezing cold and pouring rain, yes, we didn’t have a lot of luck, because the weather was always very bad, only for us.
During all these trips I have seen breath taking beautiful places in the region of Saxony, places that I didn’t even know that existed, I have been amazed by castles, stories, ballets, history, museums and the stunning nature of this beautiful region.
The most important thing was that I met so many new people, coming from different countries, different cultures, speaking every kind of possible language. I opened my self-up, trying new things and doing my best to enjoy every moment as much as I could. Even if I was thousands of km far from home, with these weekly plans I never felt homesick or alone, because I had found a new international family.
Even if my week had been stressful or full of lessons and new challenges, during these trips I really felt free and happy to have done the right decision of coming to Dresden, almost blessed.
Last but not least, what about the food? I have tried so many different and delicious thing from all around the world, more that I could have ever imagined; from the super classic German Schnitzel eaten inside and old medieval castle, to the vegan food of the hipster restaurant in Leipzig, to the classic Christmas meal of the German tradition.
Tip for the readers: Just register on time and be ready for a surprise!

ASCENT OF THE FRAUENKIRCHE
Get to know one of the landmarks of the Elbflorenz, the Frauenkirche! On Sunday, April 22nd, we invite you to walk up on the dome, along with an instructive guided tour and a visit to the interior of the church. Afterwards, we will enjoy German “Kaffee und Kuchen” together and have time for a chat.

DAY TRIP TO ZWICKAU - CRADLE OF THE SAXON AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY
Get to know the automobile city of Zwickau with us, on Saturday, April 28th. Not only for car and technology fans! During a guided tour of the Horch-Museum, we learn more about Saxony’s automotive history after World War II. After lunch together in a local Brauhaus we get to know the city on a walk.

THURINGIA - WEEKEND TRIP INTO GERMAN HISTORY
This summer term our weekend trip from May 10th to 13th* takes you to Thuringia, on the traces of German history. We will get up on the Wartburg where Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German 500 years ago. Afterwards we go down into the depth of a salt mine not far away from the federal state capital Erfurt. There we will marvel at the greatest and best preserved medieval city centre in Europe during a guided city walk. Once in Thuringia we should not miss out on a trip to Weimar! The city is known world-wide for its culture, arts and music. This includes “Weimar Classicism”, represented by the two famous poets Goethe and Schiller, but also the beginning of modern design by the “Bauhaus” school of arts.
*Thursday, May 10th is Ascension Day, a bank holiday in Germany.

THARANDT - DISCOVERING THE FOREST BOTANICAL GARDEN OF TU DRESDEN
On Saturday, May 26th, we will take you to the Forest Botanical Garden of TUD, also known as the Saxon State Arboretum, on a guided tour. This place of training and research for the students of forest science of TU Dresden exists for already more than 200 years. It is home of many local and exotic plants, but also many beautiful old trees. We will gather our strength around the lunch table and continue our discovery on a will hike through the diverse and relaxing environment.

SAXON AND SORBIAN TRADITIONS AT THE MUSEUM OF SAXON FOLK ART
Saxony is a diverse region with many local traditions, languages and of course culinary treats. Handcrafts give a very special insight in the everyday life of local people in the past and present. On Sunday, May 27th, you can get to know a lot of them in just one place, on a guided tour to the museum of Saxon folk art: enchanting carved objects from the Ore Mountains (not only nutcrackers!) and embroidered woven textiles from Lusatia, lavish Sorb costumes and intricate lace from the Vogtland region, painted furniture , richly decorated ceramics and an unusually diverse collection of historic toys. After the visit tot he museum we can have a chat around German „Kaffee und Kuchen“ about new and old traditions in our home countries.

On Tuesday, May 29th, the 27th edition of the STUDENT'S DAYS DRESDEN will start at the Alte Mensa, Mommsenstraße 13. Check out the INFORMATIONA MARKET FOR CULTURAL EVENTS in general, as well as different artistic groups, student’s clubs and cultural institutions of Dresden, like theatres and museums, presenting their latest programmes and offers. The Cultural Office of the International Office of TUD will be there, too. We look forward to meeting you from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

DINOSAUR PARK KLEINWELKA -
TIME TRAVEL TO THE JURASSIC PERIOD
On Saturday, June 2nd, we take you on a time travel about 230 million years in the past. During the Jurassic period, probably most of the 200 giant lizards populating the biggest German dinosaur park were around alive. Nowadays it’s completely safe to meet the famous representatives of the extinct species on a guided tour. Vote for your favourite dinosaur around the lunch table!

HELLERAU GARDEN CITY -
SOCIAL UTOPIA OF THE MODERN AGE
In the times of Industrial Revolution, cities grew but they did not necessarily become uglier! A perfect example for this is the garden city Hellerau, a district of Dresden. On Saturday, June 9th, you can discover Germany's first garden city with us. Join a guided tour around the area created to unite work and housing in a healthy and enjoyable manner also for the working class. After lunch together at the Festspielhaus Hellerau, famous as the cradle of modern dance in Europe, you can enjoy the fusion of nature and city in the afternoon.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT TEAM AT DRAGON BOAT RACE

Sports lovers listen up! This summer we are looking for you to complete our international student team at the traditional dragon boat race during the Elbhangfest, a district festival along the North Eastern shore of the Elbe river, from Loschwitz to Pillnitz. No fancy canoeing skills are necessary ; only bring a positive attitude and basic swimming skills!
On three Sundays in a row we will get some basic training and get on the water. On June 10th and 17th, our training sessions on water and solid ground take place. On the Elbhangfest weekend, June 23th to 24th 2018, you can show your skills at the race!
Important: Presence on all dates is obligatory for participation. The exact date of the racing day for student teams will be announced soon, probably Sunday, June 24th.
Fee: 20 Euros
Pay until May 15th and your shirts will have exactly your size!

BOHEMIAN SWITZERLAND - HIKE THROUGH THE ELBE SANDSTONSE MOUNTAINS
On Saturday, June 30th, we will discover the unique beauty of the Bohemian Switzerland and the impressive Elbe sandstone mountains, right behind the German-Czech border. After our hike through the nature we regain our strength with a lunch, before taking a boat through a typical gorge.
