Admission requirements
In order to be accepted into the programme, you must have obtained a first university degree that qualifies for a profession; a degree or a qualification in the field of chemistry, life sciences or environmental engineering from a university or state/state-approved university of cooperative education that is recognised in Germany; a degree or qualification with a focus on the life sciences, environment or biology/ecology.
Proficiency of English at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required. For applicants whose native language is not English, or whose language skills cannot be proven through a school-leaving certificate, this level must be verified with by presenting a certificate for a completed language test, such as the internet-based TOEFL test, the paper-based TOEFL test, the computer-based TOEFL test, or the IELTS test.

International applicants and German applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification are kindly advised to read the requirements for German-language courses.
Notes on the application process
If, at the time of application, proof of the first degree qualifying the applicant for a profession is not yet available, the application will be considered under the precondition that 80% of the credit points attainable for the degree have already been achieved based on completed module examinations or the final thesis and the colloquium (if applicable). A certification from the awarding institute of higher education (examination office) serves as proof of the above-mentioned academic achievements. General information about the degree program
The master's programme "Biotechnology and Applied Ecology" with the specialisations "Biotechnology" and "Biodiversity and Nature Conservation" is offered. The aim is to train experts for international assignments in the fields of biotechnological research, production and environmental precaution and aftercare as well as biodiversity research and nature conservation.
In order to meet the requirements for adaptability and flexibility on the labour market, great importance is attached to the acquisition of fundamental knowledge in the fields of practical microbiology and biotechnology as well as ecology and ecosystem science. It is a cooperative course of studies with the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
