German Studies at TU Dresden combines linguistics and literature with a cultural studies perspective. Linguistics thus encompasses not only classical language teaching and learning as well as the history of German from its beginnings to the present, it also includes topics such as language use in the media. Likewise, literature covers a wide spectrum of literary history and media studies – from Arthurian legend to theater and performance to contemporary TV series.
During their studies, students acquire comprehensive knowledge in both linguistics and literature, and have the option to choose concentrations according to their interests. As cultural studies are an integral part of the program, special attention is paid to both interdisciplinary thinking and work, and to the analysis of numerous subject matters that go beyond the written text. If you are fascinated by language and literature from the Middle Ages, digital humanities and pop culture, and you do not shy away from intensive exploration of these subjects, the German Studies program at TU Dresden is the perfect match for you, providing an exciting, ambitious and thought-provoking study environment.
