DO it NOW – Sustainability Week at TU Dresden from June 15 to June 21 kicks off with festival in Prohlis on Saturday
Each year, TU Dresden transforms into a sustainability hub. During the “Do it now” campaign week from June 15 to 21, university members and the wider community are invited to participate in an exhilarating range of activities and networking opportunities. The main event venues are the inner courtyard of the Fritz Foerster Building and Mommsenstraße in front of the Alte Mensa canteen. For three days, a section of road will be closed off to create a tangible space in the heart of the university that showcases the vision of a sustainable, social and vibrant campus. Sustainability Week is a platform for everyone to show what is happening in the area of sustainability and campus life at TU Dresden and in our city.
The festival in Prohlis on June 15 marks the beginning of the week’s events. Together with Zuhause in Prohlis e. V. and Quartiersmanagement Prohlis, TUD cordially invites you to a summer party for young and old on the square in front of the KiEZ in the Prohliszentrum shopping mall (Prohliser Allee 10, 01239 Dresden). Music, quizzes, games and other activities centered around social interaction will provide entertainment and an insight into science. Julian Janssen (known as Checker Julian from ARD/BR children's television) and the Banda Comunale will also be there!
From Monday, June 17, the action will continue on campus, for example with a networking event for those active and interested in sustainability in the city, the Sustainable Coffee Hour, starting at 1:00 pm. On the following day, June 18, the TUD Lectures+ “Climate change as a challenge and opportunity for social cohesion” will be held outdoors in the inner courtyard of the Fritz Foerster Building. Experts Dr. Manès Weisskircher, Head of the BMBF Junior Research Group REXKLIMA at the Institute of Political Science; Dr. Alice Freiberg, Head of the Research Area of Occupational, Social and Environmental Epidemiology at the Institute and Polyclinic for Occupational and Social Medicine at TU Dresde; and Chair of Meteorology Prof. Matthias Mauder, will take questions from the audience. Music will be provided by the electronic jazz trio Laurent De Schepper.
Over the course of the week, there will be talks and workshops on topics such as cradle to cradle in the construction industry, plastic recycling and sustainable food shopping, as well as presentations by numerous initiatives such as the Plastics Forge, Omas for Future, Amnesty International and more on Mommsenstraße. Join us on June 20 at 10:00 am at “Sustainability Breakfast – educational tidbits and talks at about the future” to chat with experts in education, nutrition and sustainability. Concerts, film evenings and clothes swap parties round off the Sustainability Week program.
