Knowledge for Life: TU Dresden will host over 200 events during the Dresden Science Night on June 14, 2024, featuring activities for all – even soccer fans will get a kick out of it!
Discover the vast diversity of science at the 21st Dresden Science Night at TUD Dresden University of Technology on June 14, 2024. Starting at 5:00 pm, join TUD and Dresden’s scientists for an evening of interactive research, experiments, and learning. Visitors can expect an exciting and educational evening full of discoveries, knowledge and entertainment with over 200 events hosted at TU Dresden.
There’s even something for soccer fans: The opening match of UEFA EURO 2024 between Germany and Scotland will be broadcast live on the lawn behind the Auditorium Center – including a warm-up with humorous insights into the world of soccer phrases from "soccer linguist" and researcher Prof. Simon Meier-Vieracker.
Inspiring people – and providing insights into research
If flying an airplane has always been your dream, take the controls of an Airbus A320 in the flight simulation lab and test your skills. Visitors of all ages can learn what pilots have to deal with during a flight.
Starting at 5:30 pm, visitors to the High Voltage Laboratory can look forward to an hourly lecture on the phenomena of electricity (access via Mommsenstraße 10). Members of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering will provide insights into current research projects and show fascinating live experiments.
Scientists at the Railway Operation Laboratory explain what it takes to ensure safe (and punctual!) train services. A tour of the facility, which is used to train students in railway operations, provides a glimpse into the interplay between infrastructure, modern technology, and the people who work there.
In the Faculty of Computer Science’s Learning, Adaptive Systems and Robotics Lab, researchers will demonstrate how they want to teach robots the sense of touch. Combining machine learning and robotics, they are equipping robotic fingers with high-resolution tactile sensors to enable tactile perception.
Visitors can also witness robots in action at the CeTIBAR. This unique research laboratory shows how people and machines could work together in the future. Guests can immerse themselves in the world of robotics with interactive activities – not to mention the dancing robotic dogs.
Events taking place outside of the TUD Campus|Südvorstadt
At the COSMO Science Forum in the Kulturpalast Dresden, children and young people from grade 8 and up can have fun learning how to program. In the Future Workshop, visitors of all ages can bring their own visions to life using colorful materials and innovative tools.
At the TUD Campus|Johannstadt, children can graduate with an “Olfactory Diploma” from Dresden University Hospital or learn about the superpowers of axolotls and zebrafish at the CRTD.
Scientist Tino Schmiel will be presenting TU Dresden's space outposts in lectures at 6:30 pm, 8:30 pm and 10:30 pm in the research and teaching building on Marschnerstraße. Visitors can also put their bridge-building skills to the test and learn more about flying drones.
