2019 Teaching Award
The 2019 Teaching Award was granted to the English-language Computational Modeling and Simulation Master’s degree program.
The degree program was established in the 2018/19 winter semester by the Faculties of Computer Science and Mathematics as well as the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB) as an inter-faculty Master’s degree program. It is characterized by its interdisciplinary and research-oriented curriculum. Thanks to its modular track structure, it offers various opportunities for specialization and an easy transfer to subsequent doctoral studies. Moreover, the accompanying mentoring program is worthy of mention, as it has proven useful in ensuring students’ success. “Various Faculties and institutions at TU Dresden worked together to develop the degree program, with its innovative courses and flexible implementation, which has proven successful. The Master’s degree program’s skills orientation is also exemplary, and it followed the quality management specifications for internal accreditation spectacularly,” said Prof. Müller-Steinhagen in his lauditory speech.
At just two years old, this integrated program has already been met with great interest – of the 282 applicants from 34 countries, 132 began their studies in the 2019/20 winter semester. The 6,000 euros in prize money was awarded to the team responsible for the degree program’s track-based structure – Prof. Sbalzarini, Prof. Gumhold, Prof. Beitelschmidt, Prof. Voigt and Prof. Möst.
Furthermore, two researchers were acknowledged for their outstanding achievements:
- Prof. Eric Schoop (Chair of Business Information Systems, esp. Information Management) was nominated by the Business and Economics Faculty Student Council and has received this special acknowledgment for his work as a university professor and Dean of Studies, as well as for promoting and implementing e-learning strategies in his teaching.
- Dipl. Ing. Mathias Kortke, Research Associate at the Chair of Communications Theory within the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, received recognition for his many years of teaching, introducing and guiding tutorials as well as creating online lectures on systems theory.
