Tabea Cwienzek visited the ESTSS 2025 in Tbilisi
In June 2025, Tabea Cwienzek, a student at the Faculty of Psychology at TU Dresden and Research Assistant at the Competence Center for Trauma Outpatient Clinics in Saxony at the Carl Gurstav Carus University Hospital, took part in the 18th conference of the European Society for Trauma Stress Studies (ESTSS) in Tbilisi, Georgia. The theme of the international conference was "Exploring New Approaches for Healing and Recovery in Times of Global Uncertainty and Extreme Stress". In numerous exciting symposia, poster sessions and lectures, current challenges and new scientific and clinical approaches to overcoming traumatic experiences were discussed with international representatives of the scientific community.
As part of a free paper session, Tabea Cwienzek presented the results of her master's thesis entitled "Professionals Coping with Filicide in the Context of Domestic Violence - a Collective Task?". This thesis examines how two professional groups dealt with the psychological stress when they were confronted with cases of infanticide in the context of domestic violence in their professional role. Ten guided interviews were analyzed for this purpose. The analysis identified coping strategies on an individual, interpersonal, organizational and societal level. The central role of collegial and organizational support is particularly noteworthy. Differences in the structural anchoring of such support services were found between the two professional groups. The results underline the importance of collective coping strategies and suggest that long-term, systematically anchored support structures are necessary.
Participation in the conference provided valuable impetus for the further development of the work as well as for personal and professional development. Special thanks go to the Society of Friends and Sponsors of TU Dresden for their financial support of the conference participation.
