The TUDORS presented the play "In Darfur" in the twin city of Coventry on July 27, 2024
The TUD Dresden University of Technology Off their Rockers Shakespeareans (TUDORS) have been invited to Coventry for the third time, having previously performed "Train of Life" in February 2020 and "Last Stop: Clausnitz" in October 2022. As part of the 65th anniversary of the town twinning between Dresden and Coventry, this time they presented the powerful play "In Darfur" by Winter Miller about the terrible genocide in this East African country.
This performance was made possible thanks to the support of the Gesellschaft von Freunden und Förderern der TU Dresden e.V.: 11 students from Marc Lalonde's theater workshop at the Institute of English and American Studies were able to inspire the Coventry audience and discover the twin city for themselves.
After their arrival in Coventry on July 26, Richard Parker from CAIF (Coventry Association for International Friendship) gave The TUDORS a tour of the cathedral and the city center. On July 27, there was a joint breakfast with several members of CAIF, which led to an interesting exchange for the students.
On the same afternoon, the stage was set up and a rehearsal was held at the King Henry VIII School. In the evening, around 40 audience members, including the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Ms. Cllr Mutton, attended the performance. At the end, there was a lot of applause for this great performance about the genocide in Darfur.
Before traveling back to Dresden, The TUDORS followed in the footsteps of Shakespeare by visiting his birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon. There they visited his two houses and his grave.
